Integrated with other artistic and cultural languages, the circus arts are deployed as tools for social intervention. This was the reason why the Crescer e Viver NGO established the Circo Social outreach circus in 2002, with a socio-educational methodology acknowledged by Unesco that permeates all the projects run by this Institution, headquartered in São Gonçalo, Rio de Janeiro State. It is used for supplementary education, fostering all-round development and promoting citizens’’ rights for at-risk children, adolescents and young people from seven to 24 years old.
In order to extend the impacts of these actions, its integrated efforts target families, schools and communities, constituting the Cultural Bases for Development (Bases Culturais para o Desenvolvimento) Project that enhances the lives of children and young people.
