Ever since it was established in the Vigário Geral district, the AfroReggae NGO has been building up strength and spreading to other communities. The large numbers of youngsters attracted to its many different projects clearly indicated the need for systematic monitoring of its beneficiaries. The Social Impact project addresses the staff working with young people in the Vigário Geral, Complexo do Alemão, Cantagalo and Parada de Lucas communities. The efforts of these teams, which consist of social workers and psychologists, includes social monitoring and registering some 800 young people, using a computerised monitoring and assessment system that profiles the participants and qualifies these services. Supported during the first and second editions of the programme, the Cool Kid (Criança Legal) Project offered educational opportunities to children between four and six years old in Vigário Geral, and was then closed down by AfroReggae, with all its beneficiaries being referred to other institutions within the community.
