Dear Partners,
On October 10, the wall supporting the slope behind the rear yard of the premises used by the Santa Teresa Ballet collapsed due to heavy rains, resulting in a massive landslip. As a result, the ballet room at this institution has been closed by the Civil Defence Authorities. Classes are currently suspended, and this organisation is seeking the best steps for addressing this problem.
The Santa Teresa Ballet took part in the Be Capable (Ser Capaz) Programme ran by Instituto Desiderata and has been our partner since then. It deserves our support in the process of rebuilding efforts that have taken almost ten years, offering cultural activities and catch-up classes to children and adolescents, in addition to social and family counselling in several communities in the Santa Tereza District.
Due to the size of this landslip, the current conditions at the site and the gloomy outlook for a short-term solution, Projects Manager Vânia Farias and her team have temporarily transferred all the Santa Tereza Ballet classes to the Laurinda Santos Lobo Culture Centre, and the Santa Tereza library, located at Rua Monte Alegre 306 in Santa Teresa. In parallel, they are seeking other premises in this district in order to move the headquarters of this institution on a permanent basis, as there is no possibility of continuing at the current location.
How to Help
The immediate need is to find new premises for the headquarters of this institution, with funds that can help underwrite this transfer, including expenses required to remove the special ballet class flooring, moving a piano, as well as costumes, closets, computers and other materials and equipment.
