The purpose of the Extending the Welcome (Ampliando o Acolher) Programme is to upgrade therapeutic conditions in the government hospital network through projects designed to humanise the treatment of children and youngsters with cancer. These projects are built up on a participative basis, guided by demands for public healthcare services, taking into account examples of outstanding experiences in this field throughout Brazil, in addition to contributions from partners in civil society working in this area.
In parallel to its commitment to the physical implementation of the projects, the Instituto Desiderata directly oversees these activities for the first 24 months of after implementation, through:
> monitoring and assessing outcomes
> building up sustainability indicators for projects jointly with hospital staff
> encouraging exchanges of experiences among hospital staff, helping strengthen the network providing specialised care for childhood cancers in Rio de Janeiro.
The purpose of the Instituto Desiderata is to ensure the feasibility of implementing projects under the Extending the Welcome (Ampliando o Acolher) Programme in all hospitals with Paediatric Oncology Units in Rio de Janeiro. To do so, it strives to identify investor partners engaged and committed to this cause.
