Secondary school pupils will be the researchers in the Diagnostic Action exploring this education segment in the Rio de Janeiro Municipality, linking analyses of existing educational indicators for this network to the perceptions of the school communities directly involved. Scheduled for the second half of this year, this survey will train 120 teenagers in the 8th and 9th grades, who will then interview 3,600 pupils in the 6th and 7th grades, in addition to teachers and administrators at forty municipal schools.
“The main difference in this diagnosis is its participative methodology, which will build up ample mobilisation and dialogue within each school, and also among schools,” stresses Ana Lima, a Director of the Paulo Montenegro Institute, which is one of the partners in this action, together with the Health Promotion Centre (CEDAPS). Designed to present a qualitative overview of the quantitative data already available, in addition to other information uncovered during the survey, this will be the first activity undertaken by the Institute Desiderata in partnership with the Municipal Education Bureau, focused tightly on this stage of education.
