For the first time in Brazil, the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP) held its congress in Brazil.  This XLI congress was held in São Paulo on October 5 – 9. 

Two of the strategies leading to participation in this event were opportunities to exchange experiences in an area of discussion with international representatives, while presenting the initial outcomes of the United Through the Cure public policy fostering early diagnoses of childhood cancers in Rio de Janeiro. 

A scientific poster was presented, describing the mobilisation, formulation and implementation process of this policy.  The head of the Onco-Hematology Unit at the Hospital dos Servidores do Estado, Doctor Fernando Werneck and Instituto Desiderata Director Beatris Azevedo attended this event in order to present this project and clear up doubts. 

The support material for the process of implementing the United Through the Cure public policy, as well as the informative bulletin with its outcomes were available in English and Portuguese at the stands set up for this purpose. 

Some seventy Congress attendees left their email addresses, in order to receive regular information on the outcomes and the expansion of this policy to other municipalities in Rio de Janeiro State.
