Representatives of the Municipal Health Bureau and the Instituto Desiderata met with the administrators of the Pedro Ernesto University Hospital (HUPE), as well as with the heads of the Paediatrics Department, the Adolescent Health Studies Centre (NESA) and the Haematology Unit, in order to integrate this important University Hospital with the United through the Cure (Unidos Pela Cura) Public Policy.

Eager to participate in this Policy fostering early diagnoses of childhood cancers in Rio de Janeiro, representatives of this Hospital will attend the UPC Strategic Committee Planning Meeting scheduled for March 11 at the Bank of Brazil Culture Centre (CCBB) in Rio de Janeiro.

As a reference centre for the treatment of teen patients, the Adolescent Health Studies Centre (NESA) will broaden the gateway for conducting detailed diagnoses of suspected cases of childhood cancers referred by the primary care network. The limited facilities for adolescents offered by the paediatric care network is an issue that was explored in Bulletin Nº 4, which presents the outcomes of the United through the Cure Public Policy.

Integrating the Pedro Ernesto University Hospital with this Policy will strengthen the group of institutions that are jointly responsible for this early diagnosis policy in Rio de Janeiro.
