With more extensive use of referral cards for suspected cases of childhood cancers by primary care clinics, some adjustments were needed to the computerised system set up in 2008. From the last quarter of 2009 onwards, these alterations allowed closer monitoring of each aspect of the policy, as explained below:
Education – capacity-building classes for paediatricians and GPs in the municipal public health network;
Flow – referrals of suspected cases of childhood cancers from primary care clinics to research hub hospitals and even specialised treatment centres
Information – computerised policy management system that allows suspected cases of childhood cancers to be monitored through to diagnostic confirmation.
These alterations also allow primary care clinics to access the consolidated reports produced by the computerised system, with data that is presented in the four-monthly Informative Bulletin.

The main accomplishments and challenges of the United through the Cure policy can be followed in the latest edition of the Informative Bulletin, with information on the outcomes of 126 referral cards reaching six research hub hospitals, as well as the ongoing education of physicians in the municipal healthcare network and the participation and dissemination of this policy at congresses and meetings in this field.
