Exploring the challenges of secondary schooling and spotlighting its indicators in Rio de Janeiro, the Instituto Desiderata will host a meeting of the managers of entities investing in education, also attended by civil servants and other outreach organisations committed to education. This event will be held in parallel to the VI Congress of the Corporate Foundations and Institutes Group (GIFE) on Private Outreach Investment, which is scheduled for April 7 - 9 in Rio de Janeiro.
The secondary school years (6th to 9th grades) are viewed as a sensitive stage for these youngsters, moving into their teens and faced by a new educational structure with more subjects and teachers. “We found that these characteristics have not been thoroughly examined in academic research projects and are not addressed by private and public investments,” notes Instituto Desiderata Director Beatriz Azeredo. This event intends to gather together a broad range of players engaged with key secondary schooling issues, based on educational indicators as well as federal, state and municipal government actions, while also presenting the experiences and views of organisations in the education area attending this meeting.
In addition to the managers of outreach organisations working with education, other attendees will include Basic Education Secretary Maria do Pilar Lacerda from the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC); Rio de Janeiro Municipal Education Secretary Cláudia Costin; the President of the All for Education movement Mozart Ramos; and the President of the How are We Doing Rio entity, Rosiska Darcy de Oliveira.
